Get started on moblogging

August 28, 2009 | No Comments Yet

So you have a blog, but have you taken it to the next level with moblogging, or mobile blogging? This introduction by Pro Blog Design should convince you to.

Back in the old days, writers like Ernest Hemingway never traveled anywhere without their notebooks. Who knew when inspiration could hit? This century’s notebook is the cellphone. If you come up with an interesting hypothesis on dinosaurs, why would you risk waiting until you got home to write about it? If you see a stellar sunset, how could you possibly go home to retrieve your camera in enough time to capture it? If you’re a moblogger, you’re fortunate that when inspiration makes it surprise visit, you’ll be ready with your phone in hand.

Now more than ever is it essential to blog while on the go, as the Real-Time Web is upon us. Covering breaking news live and before anyone else makes all the difference these days.

The article also has a list of recommended plugins for moblogging using WordPress, as well as alternative services Blogger, LiveJournal, Tumblr, and 3rd-party apps like Shozu and SpinVox.

Not sure how many iPhone (or iPod Touch) users are there in the Philippines, but if you’re a WordPress user as well, you’ll be happy to know that the WordPress for iPhone app has been released in the iPhone App Store (note: link opens iTunes).

This is the official blogging app for WordPress and is released by Automattic. It was, however, developed by a company called Effigent. Here are the listed features for the WordPress mobile blogging application:

  • Support for blogs and self-installed blogs version 2.5.1 and higher
  • Embedded Safari for true previews of posts
  • Full tag and category support
  • Photo support for both camera pictures as well as library photos
  • Support for multiple blogs
  • Ability to password protect a post, save as a draft, or mark the post for later review
  • Auto-recovery. This will recover posts which have been interrupted by phone calls

You’ve seen the video tour, now it can be yours for free. Support issues can be submitted here.

WordPress blogging app coming to the iPhone

June 10, 2008 | 1 Comment

In the wee hours of the morning the newest version of the Apple iPhone was announced. It’s coming to the Philippines in September, but there’s something else I’m going to point out: there’s going to be a native blogging application for WordPress on the iPhone.

The blogging app for TypePad was demo-ed during the Apple WWWDC 2008 Keynote, and corresponding ones for WordPress and Blogger are coming in the next few weeks.

Will this put a whole new spin on the concept of mobile blogging, considering how well-made iPhone apps are? Let’s wait and find out!
