Let’s not ask why subscribing to one’s blog is a common criterion for all the blog contests out there; let’s be thankful Thaya Kareeson over at Weblog Tools Collection has written a helpful tutorial for keeping track of new subscribers to your RSS feed.
The technique involves adding a special contest code that appears only in the feed, which subscribers can use to indicate they are indeed subscribed:
A known solution to this problem is to include a special contest code into your RSS feed and not have this code visible on your website. That way each contestant will be forced to grab the code from your feed and submit the code via comments to verify that they have subscribed to the RSS feed.
Even if you’re uncomfortable with editing PHP, all you have to do is copy the code given in the article and you should be good to go. All in all, this is a smart technique that should help you out for your next blog contest!

The Saranggola Blog Awards is not your typical blogging contest. Aside from recognizing blogging in the Filipino language and in various formats (short stories, children’s stories, poetry, video blogging), there is a charitable aspect to the event: every blog entry submitted will be matched with a kite (saranggola) for children and children’s causes throughout Metro Manila.
The contest is open to all bloggers in and out of the Philippines and runs from July 8 to August 31, 2009. Bloggers’ Choice, Judges’ Choice, and Finalists will be announced on September 15, 2009. Special prizes will also be given, such as caps, mouse pads, PANPIL Pipol books, and of course, kites. Complete mechanics listed here.
What’s the single most important step to get the Philippine Blog Awards rolling? The nominations, of course. The process seems a lot simpler this year, but there are still a good number of guidelines for eligibility you have to keep in mind. Deadline is on August 13 at 11:59 pm, Philippine time.
But that’s just the start of the exciting new features in this year’s prestigious blogging event: aside from a swanky site redesign, the blog awards will take place not just in Luzon (October 9) but also in Visayas (October 17) and Mindanao (October 24). Looks like this year’s theme is to unite the three main islands of the Philippines under “one blogging nation”. This shouldn’t be so difficult to do as blogging groups are more active than ever down south!
Avalon.ph is holding the second annual Blog Hopping Moleskine Giveaways throughout July. The online bookstore is partnering with several blogs to raffle off moleskines to their blog readers. Here’s this year’s schedule:

- Jul 9-15 – Perlas Design Studio
- Jul 16-22 – Tina Zamora Photography
- Jul 23-29 – Topaz Horizon
Aside from the roving raffle schedules, the site owners can set their own contest rules, so head over to the above blogs during the corresponding weeks for more details.
Buwan ng Wika comes early this year with the launch of Tinig.com’s writing contest entitled Wikang Filipino sa Panahon ng Twitter.
Very good question. In fact, it feels inappropriate to even write this blog post in Filipino.
But anyway, the mechanics are simple: register at Tinig.com and submit an essay with 500-700 words discussing the importance of the Filipino language in this modern era. Entries should not have been published elsewhere (including blogs). Deadline is on August 19, 2009.

Categories for submissions include VJs & Celebrities, Lifestyle & Fashion, Gadgets & Gaming, and Music & Entertainment. Deadline is June 30, 2009. Enter here.

Wondering how you can watch the Philippine Blog Awards live? We finally have an answer. Organizers have opened registrations for blogger attendees. There will be 200 available slots. Take note, this is for bloggers only.
Due to venue limitations, we are only opening 200 slots for bloggers at the moment. Once all slots have been filled out, we’ll post an announcement on this blog. We’ll also announce it should there be additional seats available.
At WordCamp Philippines last Saturday, a blog contest sponsored by Cebu Pacific airlines was announced. Here’s the official announcement and mechanics of the Cebu Pacific Blogging Challenge.
All you have to do is write a blog post about the destinations of Cebu Pacific, making sure that when you mention the airline you describe it in a positive light. You must also link to them without
rel="nofollow", without any other links in the entry.
The top 5 entries, picked by Cebu Pacific and the WordCamp organizers, will each win a domestic airline ticket.
This is open to all bloggers who are 18 years old and above (not just the participants of WordCamp). Contest runs from September 6 to October 31. Register here.
- You need to be a Filipino blogger with a blog, which “must be established at least three (3) months from today with a minimum of 10 posts.”
- You need to pick one nominee and write a blog post about why he/she deserves to win. “Yes, you can vote for your own blog. And no, you cannot vote for a blog that is not on the list of official Bloggers’ Choice Award nominees.”
- You need to include the list of sponsors in your blog post.
- You need to submit your blog post here.
So why would you go through all the trouble of doing that? Every blog post counts as one raffle entry (but one post per blogger only). Prizes to that raffle will be announced soon.
Finally, congratulations to the nominees:
